Car         Great Interest: Panorama Great Interest: Hystory
  • Departure: L'Aquila
  • Arrival: Capitignano (Capitignano)

From L'Aquila, following the SS road running along the course of River Aterno, you will reach Pizzoli, where the wonderful 17th century Dragonetti-De Torres Castle, with its square plan and corner donjons, dominates. Not far from Pizzoli you will reach Barete, built on the ancient Lavaretumo Lavacrum Amiternie which mainly developed between the 17th and 18th centuries, preserving the Parish Church of San Vito, renovated in the 18th century. On the ridge of Pagarone dominating the town, in a strategic position for the rule of the northern section of the valley of L'Aquila, there are the ruins of the ancient Rocca (13th century). From Barete, interesting hiking itineraries develop, sometimes also accessible on horseback and by mountain bike, giving the opportunity to reach Mt. S. Lorenzo (1,426m) and Mt. Mozzano (1,493m), facing Campotosto Lake.
